BECOME A PATRON
How to become a Patron for Speedworks Charity
Britain has always been a nation that finds pride in the success of its athletes, but how many potential champions have passed us by due to a lack of support? The issue of support has always been a catch 22 for athletes. Support is often only available to those already operating at an elite level; however, in order to produce elite level performances an athlete needs to train like an elite level athlete, something that that is almost impossible without the necessary support.
Many athletes find themselves in a predicament where they need to work to cover their general living expenses whilst also trying to train around 4 hours per day, 5 – 6 days per week. Furthermore, the annual costs associated with Track & Field Athletics places an additional strain on athletes, often leading to a need to work more and train less, moving them further away from achieving their goals.
Here is a breakdown of the typical annual costs for 1 athlete:
- Coaching & medical fees: £4,400
- Sports nutrition: £600
- Competition fees (including travel & accommodation): £600
- Travel to training: £350
- Warm weather training: £1,500
- Clothing & equipment: £600
Total annual costs: £8,050
Here at Speedworks Charity we aim to break down some of these financial barriers for our athletes. Based at Lee Valley Athletics Centre and under the leadership of Head Coach Marvin Rowe, the charity provides an all-encompassing support team around a current squad of 13 athletes. This system gives athletes access to the professionals they need such as osteopaths, sprint coaches, massage therapists and strength & conditioning coaches, whilst they undergo an individualised elite training programme.
The success of the system can be seen in predecessors and current ambassadors, Daryll Neita and Reece Prescod, who have also come through the Speedworks system. Our desire is to continue to help athletes reach their potential, but to keep this system running, we need help!
We are looking for individuals and businesses willing to become patrons of our charity. A patron is one who donates a regular amount on a monthly basis. If you would like to be responsible for our next British successes, you can become a patron using the link below. No amount is too small, and all donations are tax deductible and gift aid applicable.
Alternatively, businesses may provide products on an ongoing basis to support the Speedworks Charity squad. If you would like to discuss this option, please email email@example.com
Thank you in advance from everyone at Speedworks. You are helping us to bridge the gap between development and elite level performance
