Coach Development Days

Host: Jonas Dodoo
Dates: 28th July 2021, 5th August 2021 and 21st August 2021
Timings: 12:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Venue: Loughborough University Campus
Price: £85

Coach Development Day focuses on combining the Art and Science of coaching explosive movements, with communication being the centrepiece.
While the modern coach must of course be able to understand and interpret the evidence that underpins coaching/physical development, there is an additional need to be able to summarise it simply and communicate “what matters” clearly to their athletes.
Coach Development Day is a fully inclusive experience in which Jonas Dodoo will take coaches through the fundamentals of coaching acceleration and max velocity. In addition, he will cover how exactly to use gym/field-based drills to develop coordination and conditioning for speed, to really maximise transfer of training.
Within these session’s Jonas will share his framework for exercise selection and cueing, describing in depth, when and what to use to encourage technical change; but most importantly the “why” .
Coaches will initially be coached by Jonas and the Speedworks Team, before coaching one another; with plenty of opportunities to get feedback and guidance.
This is a fully practical event but those unable to take part are welcome to get involved observing, and will have increased opportunities in the coaching breakouts.

Speed, Biomechanics and Profiling for Team Sports

Host: Jonas Dodoo
Date: 14th August 2021
Timings: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM (lunch provided)
Venue: Loughborough University Campus
Price: £180

This workshop is appropriate for all those interested in the deep theory and methodology behind sprint training. Jonas will take you through the fundamentals of Biomechanics, and how they apply to acceleration and maximum velocity sprinting. He will share in detail the Speedworks approach to profiling whilst giving example to a handful of Team Sport athlete case studies.

What you will learn:
  • The underpinnings of acceleration and max velocity technical models.
  • Diagnostics of sprinting gait and the links to injury.
  • Logistics around creating reliable and video derived data.
  • How to use video derived data to analyse and assess running gait.
  • How to use video to effectively provide feedback for athletes and coaches.
  • Commonalities and differences between track and field sprinters versus team athletes - what do the numbers say?
  • How to create a running model for specific athlete populations/players.

Venue: Loughborough University Campus
Price: £125 (30% early bird discount until 25th September)

This exciting new workshop will give you an insight into developing all things speed for performance; from developing relevant physical qualities in the gym and on the pitch, to sport specific transfer drills/scenarios.
Furthermore, Jonas and Al will cover the theory of ‘GAMESPEED’ and how The Speedworks Training GAMESPEED System has been used to support countless international level athletes and their success on the world stage.
Across the day, the workshop is designed to develop your knowledge and application of speed and agility, introduce you to the Speedworks “create space - take space” evasion model, and our approach to conditioning for team sports athletes.
Upon completion, you will leave with greater clarity of how to appropriately plan, structure and deliver a holistic programme that transfers onto the field, leaving your athletes more explosive, confident and able to optimally express themselves.

A speed based approach to rehabbing ACL injuries.
A new workshop hosted by rehab coach Alan Murdoch (Head Coach, Speedworks Bath) and world renowned speed coach Jonas Dodoo (Head Coach, Speedworks Loughborough) will discuss and guide you through the ‘Speedworks Rehab System’ and how to apply it to ACL Injuries.
Across the two days, attendees will be taken step-by-step through an in depth journey of ACL rehabilitation and its associated phases, from acute post injury to return to performance. Throughout, you will be provided with an extensive toolbox of novel exercises that will accelerate the rehab process. Helping to develop more robust and physically capable athletes who can return to sport faster and more agile than ever before.
The workshop will focus on two key themes across the weekend:

Day 1 (Gym based) - The Speedworks Rehab System + Philosophy (Theory)

Why speed is king and how it influences our decision making within rehab and training from Day 1 of rehabilitation?
Planning and periodising long-term rehabilitation.
Understanding outcome measures, where to incorporate them and when to progress an athletes training to the next phase.
Gym based exercise selection across the different phases of rehabilitation. The what, when, how and why?

  • Motor Control
  • Capacity + Strength
  • Plyometrics

Day 2 (Field based) - The biomechanics of running (Theory)

Speedworks will take you through their unique philosophy to developing technically robust running that has produced countless international athletes and returned injured athletes back to their sport faster than ever.
Topics covered include:

  • A ‘speed first’ approach: return to running, change of direction and speed (Practical)
  • Fast to slow approach to running - why slow running is dead.
  • ‘Create Space - Take Space’ model. Become an evasive expert.
  • ‘The Speedworks Way’ - Develop your coaching eye and make speed easy.
